This block is pretty simple to make, using only squares and half-square triangles.

Because there are several 4 patches in the block, you can easily use a strip piecing method to make those patches, saving tons of time.

Washington's Puzzle Quilt Block

It’s George Washington’s Birthday this week, and time to celebrate with the Washington’s Puzzle Quilt Block.

This block is really easy to sew together, although it looks kind of complicated.

Surprisingly, all of the seams are either straight grain or cross grain. However, all of the side seams in the block are bias – so beware when you sew this to other blocks. You may want to stitch all the way around the block to secure the edges so they don’t stretch.
