Pumpkin Quilt Block

This is an original design and relatively easy to sew together. You just need to keep track of where each of the dark patches go.

But, there are no curves or applique pieces. It is all traditional patchwork.

This quilt block has 16 patches in it – all with curves, making it a little bit challenging to sew together. But once you learn some quick techniques for sewing curves, these are simple to sew, and the block goes together fairly easily.

Empire Star Quilt Block

Our video demonstration this week is a six-pointed star, perfect for Hanukkah. This star is fairly easy to sew, although there are several bias edges to sew, so you’ll need to be careful not to stretch them, otherwise your block will be sorely mis-shapen.

Even though this block uses only two different fabrics, it is relatively challenging to sew together. It could be because almost every seam is on the bias, since virtually every patch is a triangle.

In any case, you’ll see how to sew the block together! I’d reserve some time and focus for this one

Candle Quilt Block

Candles can be used to celebrate many things.

Originally this block was created for a Halloween quilt, but in the video demonstration, you will see that I have made it to celebrate my son’s birthday.

Change the colors in the block to create the effect you want for your wall hanging or quilt.

Bells Quilt Block

The Bells quilt block makes a wonderful Holiday block – whether you make this into a wall hanging or a full size quilt.

Also consider making table runners or placemats using this block.

The curves are gentle and easy to accomplish. The clappers in each bell are hand applique – or machine, whichever you prefer.

This is a two-part video – one part showing how to applique the clapper, the second part showing how to sew the block together.

The Ice Cream Cone quilt block

It seems appropriate that July is National Ice Cream Month, so here is a quilt block for all of the ice cream lovers in the world.

The curves are relatively gentle curves and easy to sew.

Take care in sewing the triangles. Sewing bias edges to bias edges is unavoidable.

Irish Chain Patch Quilt Block

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with this Irish Chain Patch quilt block.

This two color quilt block is easy to sew together using just squares and half-square triangles.

By placing the blocks next to each other, you will create large Xs across the quilt top with semi-squares in between.

New Jersey Quilt Block

Celebrate “Be Nice to New Jersey Week” with this quilt block created in the official state colors of New Jersey.

To save time this block has been sewn together using a strip sewing technique instead of cutting individual strips for each patch in the block.
