Fabric postcards are fun to sew and go together very quickly.

This is a traditional patchwork quilt block that you can made 3″ by 3″ and then add 1″ borders onto the side to easily create a simple fabric postcard.

Add a backing – maybe some light batting or flannel in the center.

Bind and you’re finished.

You can send them through the mail or join Penny’s Postcard Posse and send them to the troops in the Middle East – just to let them know we are thinking about them and praying for their safe return.

Celebrate National Dog Day with the Dog Bone Quilt Block.

This easy-to-sew 4 patch quilt block can be made a couple of different ways.

The most obvious method is by cutting triangles and little odd-shaped pieces that are squares with one corner cut out.

Then you sew the triangle onto the corner of the square-like shape.

The other way is to cut triangles and squares, and then sew the triangles onto the corner of the square.

The second method is the way I demonstrate in the video. I prefer this method because it is a little more accurate and easier to cut the pieces.

Choose the one you like best, and enjoy this block!

Peaceful Piecing!

This is a fairly easy quilt block to sew together, made from half-square triangles. Just watch for all of those bias edges and don’t stretch them.

Happy Birthday, quilting daughter, Stephanie!

Today is Stephanie’s birthday, and she and my mom had a “thing” about hearts, so this seemed like the perfect block for Stephanie’s birthday.

This is a quick and easy 4 patch with a beautiful heart appliqued in the center of the block.

In the video, you will see how I hand appliqued the heart using freezer paper.

I have tried several other methods of hand applique, and this seems to be the easiest for me.

Enjoy and Peaceful Piecing!

The Dragonfly or Crossed Canoes quilt block is a very traditional quilt block and the look of the block can be completely different depending on the placement of the colors in your block.

Dragonfly Quilt Block Pattern

This quilt block is known by several different names, including Crossed Canoes.

It is a relatively easy 4 patch quilt block to sew together.

Once I finished this block and hung it on my wall, I realized that the fabrics I used in the block made it look kind of like “mush.”

So, it became the topic of an article on color value in quilt blocks. When you read the article, you will see that these were all medium value fabrics, By changing one fabric to a dark, it completely changed the way the block looked.

Keeping color value in mind as you select the fabrics for your blocks will help you create the look you want in your blocks.

Quilters love to make basket quilt blocks, and this one is fairly easy to make.

I have sewn this block together using only triangles, squares and rectangles.

The handle is an add-on that was made using a narrow bias strip that was sewn onto the large background triangle. Once the handle was sewn, the triangle was added to the basket, hiding the raw edges of the bias strip.

The Washington Star Quilt Block is a relatively easy to sew 4 patch quilt block.

Before I cut the patches, I saw that some could be combined, saving time for both cutting and sewing.

Watch the video to see how I figured out which patches could be combined. Basically I took patches that were side by side squares of the same color. Then some were cut at rectangles and others were cut as larger squares.

In the video you will see how I marked my block pattern in order to cut the right size and shape.

Most any quilt block can be converted into a fabric postcard.

This Rolling Star quilt block is just made as a 4 inch block, two 1 inch strips are added to the sides to make it postcard shape, a backing is added and the postcard is finished. Add a greeting, and the card is ready to be sent to your friend – or possibly a soldier in the Middle East.

Penny’s Postcard Posse continues to Roundup fabric postcards to send to the soldiers in the Middle East. You can use the Rolling Star fabric postcard, or visit www.QuiltBlockLibrary.com to get other fabric postcard patterns for free.
